The Scriptures

Scripture teaches us that, “…to all who did receive him (Jesus), to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of the human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:12-13)

Faith in God is His gift to us. It is how God draws us closer to him. And, by faith (giving ourselves over to) in Him and in the power of the work of His son, Jesus, we are born into a new world – a spiritual world – the Kingdom of God. We become, as flawed as we are, his children, and imperfect brothers and sisters of His son, Jesus!

Jesus revealed that this transformation is so complete that, we have already “crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24) That’s a powerful and truly liberating understanding, isn’t it?

We begin a life long journey away from this flawed world and toward God  our Father and all His goodness. This is the true “born again” experience that Jesus explained to Nicodemus. Everything is now constantly becoming new as we progressively realize that in this world, ‘seeing is believing,’ but within God’s Kingdom, ‘believing is seeing.’ This is why Jesus explained that we can only see and enter God’s kingdom like a little child. All of the experience and knowledge that make us intelligent and savvy adults in this world simply does not apply or work in the Kingdom of God. What the world tempts us to believe is important actually proves to be unimportant, and what the world tempts us to believe is unimportant is actually priceless. We must learn anew.

The Bible is God’s guidance – a manual, if you will, for living in the Kingdom. The more we read it, the more we come to realize how little we truly know and understand, and with every reading, our understanding is enhanced – even regarding verses and concepts we believed that we were quite familiar with.

This site is a collection of thoughts and understandings regarding scripture – intended to be more than the typical daily two paragraph devotional. Each piece is a full page article meant to challenge and thereby broaden one’s thinking about Bible stories, characters, teachings, parables, and more.
